Filled with amazing neighborhoods, South/Southwest Austin has been going strong since the Southwest area started to be developed in the late 70s. The area is still being rapidly developed, and for good reason.
Located near to downtown Austin, residents of South/Southwest Austin are able to enjoy many cultural and nightlife experiences. The Long Center for the Performing Arts, which is slated to open in the spring of 2008, is being developed as a community effort and will offer a direct connection to the arts. South/Southwest Austin also offers a wide variety of restaurant options. From coffee shops to ethnic dining such as El Sol y la Luna, there are enough restaurants to eat somewhere different every day of the month.
Residents of South/Southwest Austin can also enjoy a wonderful nightlife. The Continental Club, for example, offers a live music scene and is frequented quite regularly by celebrities.
Advanced Micro-Devices is also developing a large campus off of the Southwest Parkway, which means there are plenty of employment opportunities for those in the technology field.
South/Southwest Austin also offers plenty of opportunity for exploring and enjoying natural beauty. Lake Austin and Lake Travis are not far from this part of the city. Water sports are routinely enjoyed at both of these lakes and scuba diving is a favorite activity within the warm and pristine waters of Lake Travis.
